Android Messages For Web: A Beginners Guide

A utility that Android users have been able to employ using third-party apps like AirDroid, has just got native. To send and receive text messages from/on your computer, you do not need any extra app anymore.

What is Android Messages for web

Google has updated its official Android Messages App to include the functionality called "Messages for web". If you're using any other messaging app, it won't work on that. You will need to install the official messaging app from Google.

You might be wondering how this feature helps the users.

It lets users securely connect their Android devices to their desktop computers for the purpose of text messaging using their computers. The connection will be established over the internet. So, both devices must be connected to the Internet.

How to use Messages for web

Install the Android Messages app from Google or update if already installed.

Launch the app and open menu by tapping three vertically aligned dots.

Choose "Messages for web" from the options menu.

On the next screen, click SCAN QR CODE. You may be asked to allow access to the camera. Grant the permission as it needs the camera in order to the scan QR code.

Once the code is scanned successfully, the messaging interface will open in the browser. All messages and contacts will be synchronized. The user interface is almost identical to the one on your phone.

Now, you may want to modify the web interface a little. For that, Go to menu > settings. A list of options will pop up that includes Notifications, theme, etc.

      • There is a restriction too. That is, you can have only one active session of Messages for the web. If you try to start the second session on another desktop, the first session will expire.

How to Log out Remotely

What if you logged in on a public computer and forgot to log out? No worries!

You can log out remotely from your phone. To do so, open the app, go to menu > Messages for web. Here you will see the device where you've logged in. Tap cross icon and you are done.
